Our Blog

Welcome to the Filmutea Blog. Follow us as we start our business!

Because we are filmmakers and entrepreneurs, and Internet entrepreneurs have corporate blogs, we think we must have a video blog. We find it very interesting to tell the story of the company since the very beginning. Our commitment is to show you a weekly video of how we are progressing. Hopefully we will get your suggestions and comments.

Your messages in Filmutea, now on Google Maps! Today, we have enabled a new functionality, which will allow you to easily place your ads (crew & casting calls, classifieds, events, courses…) on Google Maps.

* Googla Maps - You may now place your ads on Filmutea, on Google Maps. When you introduce your ads, in the ’Contact Information’ section, you will find the ’Find on Map’ button. By clicking on it, you will be able to select the place where you want the ads to appear. The right format is: street, city, country (comma separated). Remember to preview the map before publishing it, in order to make sure that it is correct.

We hope to see all your ads on Google Maps shortly!

We have Video already! And we have started our Expansion! We have spent the last few weeks implementing new functionalities, improving the design and usability, and starting our international expansion:

• We have a new section, named Multimedia, in which you will be able to see, rate and comment all the Videos and Photos of the users. You will also be able to find talented people, as well as interesting projects. It will only take you a minute to embed your videos from Youtube (or similar), in order to showcase your projects, showreel and videobook. It is very easy. From your My Profile page, you only have to paste the code of the Videos you already have uploaded to Youtube. Then, they will be accessible from the Video section, and your Profile.

• We have just launched Filmutea in Mexico and Argentina . Luis Escalante and Sandra Fernandez are the representatives in those countries respectively. We have also started the Beta stage in the UK&Ireland , andwe would really appreciate if you could please help us, by inviting your friends to join us.

• We have centralised all the content subscriptions in one page (by email and RSS), so you can quickly access and manage them.

• We have changed the Base Bar, for a better usability experience.

• We have improved the participation tools, so now you may comment and rate almost any content published on the website (e.g. job, casting call...). You may also add comments to your friends, in their Profile.

• We have added new collaborations: Curtocircuito , DIBA and SNCFilm , and w... We have Video already! And we have started our Expansion!

Filmutea & NPA On Tuesday last week, when we were in London, we met with David Pope, the CEO of the New Producers Alliance , and we spent quite some time talking about the work we do, and the recent launch of the English version of our website.

David has a lot of experience in directing and producing, and he is very happy to have a collaboration between the NPA and Filmutea. He likes the fact that from now on, with Filmutea, independent English directors, producers and filmmakers in general, will be able to access crew, cast and resources in Spain more easily.

Established in 1993, the NPA is a national membership organisation and registered charity dedicated to providing essential training and networking opportunities for filmmakers. Led by industry professionals, the NPA assists independent filmmakers in developing their skills, contacts and creativity in line with working industry practices.

We are very excited about this collaboration, and we hope we can help even more filmmakers from now on.

Filmutea & QuickFlick World A couple of weeks ago, we met with Saint, the founder of QuickFlick World , and we spent some time talking about the work we do in our respective projects. We decided to have a collaboration, and help each other.

QuickFlick World is a global digital film festival which simultaneously happens once a month in a growing number of the world’s creative capitals: London, Buenos Aires, São Paulo, Berlin, Barcelona, New York, Mexico DF, Mumbai, Beijing, Tokyo and Tel Aviv.

How does it work? Each month, QuickFlick World directors collectively vote for a theme. This is the first step from which their imaginations leap and during the following month, their write, collaborate, shoot, edit and complete their QuickFlick short films relating to this theme. They then take their creations to the following month’s MasterClass where they constructively critique their films amongst their peers. All the new films are shown at their public screening parties to which they invite friends who support their creativity, production houses, ad agencies and film industry luminaries. Their parties become celebrations of the creativity and imagination their QuickFlicks demonstrate. The QFW teams in each city vote for the most inspirational films each month. Their collective choices create a monthly global Showcase which opens the next party in every city around the world.

How do I enter? Contact your local Curator or Producer, then take your film to the MasterClass in DV format (NTSC or PAL) (depending on your region) on CD-ROM in QuickTime or AVI file format with 48kHz sound.

Next event: Film Drop-Off 19 May 08 | 7:00pm, location Roxy Bar and Screen, 128-132 Borough High Street, London SE1; Screening... Filmutea & QuickFlick World

We are back to the office! Last week was very intensive for us, as we spent three long days at the conference, and we then went to several meetings we had organised for the week. But it was also very positive, because now we have new ideas for Filmutea, and a few collaborations that we will announce in the next few weeks.

We attended as many seminars as we could, including those by: MySpace, Intel, Mozilla, LinkedIn, Blinkx…, and it was very interesting to listen to their ideas regarding Marketing, Open Source, Social Networks, etc. Each time we go to a conference like this one, we charge our positive energy, and we want to implement even more functionalities in Filmutea.

Last Thursday, between 40 and 50 people attended our seminar, and we are very happy with it, considering that we are a small company, and that the room was quite small. I was a bit nervous for doing it in English, but it went very well, and after a few minutes, I had completely forgotten about my nerves. At the end, there were a few questions, and a few people came to meet us.

The only negative comment I would make regarding the Event, is that free Internet was only available at the cafeteria, and I think that was not enough, considering that it is one of the most important Internet conferences in Europe.

You will be able to find a summary of our presentation here . It is licensed under Creative Commons, and it may be freely shared and used, following this license .
